In celebration of Paella Shack’s by London Paella School participation in the prestigious Tastarròs 2024, we are thrilled to offer an exclusive three-day paella culinary tour experience in Valencia Spain, led by Paella Shack’s and London Paella School chef founder, Xavi Meroño and with the collaboration of Ricepaella. This tour is crafted for culinary enthusiasts eager to dive deep into Valencia’s rich rice and paella culture and experience the finest local cuisine.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Thursday 6th June
Paella Valenciana Cooking Class and ‘Mercado Central’ visit.
• Morning: Kick off the day with a guided tour of Valencia’s vibrant ‘Mercado Central’ , handpicking fresh ingredients alongside Xavi Meroño. Discover local produce and the pivotal role ingredient quality plays in crafting the perfect paella.
• Late Morning: After our enriching visit to the market to purchase all the paella ingredients, we’ll make a delightful stop at ‘ Benvolgut Aperitius’ inside the Mercado Central for a traditional Spanish Valencian “Picaeta Vermouth Time.” Here, you’ll experience the local custom of enjoying a chilled vermouth, accompanied by a selection of small bites, setting the perfect tone for relaxation and indulgence in the heart of Valencia’s bustling market life.
• Late Afternoon: After our market adventure, roll up your sleeves for a cooking class where Chef Meroño will unveil the secrets to authentic Valencian Paella and a very popular Valencian tapa dish ’Esgarraet’. This session will not only cover cooking techniques but also delve into the dish’s storied history.
The session will finish with a dinner experience paired with Valencian wines, tapas and dessert.
Day 2 Friday 7th June Black Rice Cooking Class and Dinner at a Landmark Restaurant
• Morning: Another Mercado Central visit to purchase all the ‘Arròs Negre’ paella rice ingredients.
Lunch: Spanish Tapas and Wine Experience at Colmado La Lola
• afternoon: Just under the iconic Miquelet Cathedral Tower, join us at ‘Colmado La Lola’ for a lunch that promises to be a highlight of your gastronomic journey. Under the guidance of the popular and charismatic owner, Jesus Ortega, you will dive into a true Spanish Tapas and Wines experience. Indulge in a variety of beautifully crafted tapas, each paired with exquisite Spanish wines selected by Jesus himself.
This experience not only offers a taste of authentic Spanish flavors but also insight into the art of tapas making and wine pairing from one of Valencia’s most beloved restaurateurs.
Evening: Day two invites you to master another Valencian classic—‘Arròs Negre’ Black Rice. Learn the unique techniques to achieve the distinctive flavour and colour that set this dish apart.
Dinner experience at cooking class with the ‘Arrós Negre’ cooked, Valencian Salad and desserts all paired with Valencian wines.
Day 3 Saturday 8th June Morning: Albufera Natural Park Visit with Boat Ride and Tastarròs experience
• Morning: Begin your final day with a tranquil escape to the serene Albufera Natural Park, a crucial site for rice cultivation and a key ingredient in our paella. After a short drive from Valencia, step into a world where nature and culture merge beautifully. Embark on a guided boat tour through the calm waters of Albufera, gliding among the vast rice fields that are the lifeblood of Valencian cuisine. This peaceful boat ride offers not only stunning views but also an opportunity to learn about the local ecosystem and the agricultural methods that define this region.
